1. Introduction to Jin’s Three Needles
Welcome to Jin’s Three Needles (J3N), a powerful set of 39 acupuncture point combinations curated by Professor Jin Rui (靳瑞, 1932-2010) from Guangzhou TCM University. Recognized by the state as a premier program for continuous TCM education, J3N is widely implemented in acupuncture and moxibustion departments across hospitals in China. It stands out as the most popular and practical acupuncture point combination system.
J3N combinations serve as primary points, providing a strong focus and clear direction for treatment. These combinations can be complemented with additional points based on individual pattern diagnosis, personal style, and clinical needs. For instance, the combination Bi San Zhen (鼻三针), or Three Nose Needles (LI20, Bitong, Yintang), is the fundamental set for treating allergic rhinitis, loss of smell (including post-Covid), sinusitis, and more. Distal acupuncture points can then be added to address specific patterns, such as LI4 + LI11 for wind-heat or KI6 + LU7 for kidney and lung Yin deficiency.
Each module of this course explores the theory behind these J3N combinations, drawing from acupuncture classics and the clinical experiences of Dr. Hui Zhang. You will learn about the precise locations of points, including extra points, and discuss various stimulation methods such as needling, moxibustion, electroacupuncture, and bleeding. We also cover possible modifications based on syndrome differentiation. Through case studies and relevant research, you will deepen your understanding of J3N Therapy, equipping you with practical skills to enhance your clinical practice. Join us to master these effective point combinations and bring advanced healing techniques to your patients.
